Togetherness & Space
match: closeness of views matters
Togetherness & Space is about how much personal space each partner needs: time alone, pursuits of your own, decisions made independently. There is no 'right' level here — what's measured is how closely the needs match, not how big they are.
This scale has no 'better' pole: a couple where both love spending almost all their time together and a couple where both value separate trips and their own social circles are built differently — but equally in tune. Lots of autonomy is neither a virtue nor a flaw; so is little of it.
Only a wide gap becomes a problem: when one partner needs air and the other needs a constant 'us', each reads the other's perfectly normal behavior as drifting away — or as suffocation. That's exactly why the scale type is 'match': the score is computed from the difference between partners, and the average says nothing here.
How it shows up in a couple
- Both love spending nearly all their free time together — and neither feels smothered.
- Each has their own hobbies, friends and trips, and both see that as normal, not as a warning sign.
- The conflict case: one plans a separate vacation as a matter of course, the other hears 'we're drifting apart' in it.
- Which decisions can be made alone and which need agreeing on — you both understand it the same way.
How LoveScore measures it
A 'match' dimension: the couple score depends only on the difference between partners — the closer their needs for personal space, the higher it is, regardless of whether they matched on 'togetherness' or on 'autonomy'. Each partner's individual level is kept and shown separately in the report: the same couple score in a close-knit couple and in an autonomous one means two different ways of living.
The wording of the test questions isn't published here: questions read in advance skew the answers — and with them, the couple's report.
