Communication
hybrid: level + match
Communication is a couple's ability to talk about hard things and carry difficult conversations through to a resolution rather than into silence. It's a hybrid dimension: what matters most is the overall level of skill, but how similarly the partners see their conversations counts too.
The dimension brings together the habits a working dialogue is made of: coming back to what was left unresolved after a fight, talking about what stung while it's still fresh, and looking in an argument for a solution that works for both of you — instead of stockpiling resentment or cutting the conversation off with silence.
One feature of this scale: some of its questions are phrased about 'we' — both partners describe the same observable process. If their assessments diverge sharply, that doesn't mean different characters; it means different pictures of the same reality — and a gap like that is an informative signal for the report in its own right.
How it shows up in a couple
- What was left unsaid after a conflict doesn't hang in the air: once heads have cooled, the couple calmly closes the topic instead of pretending nothing happened.
- What stung gets talked about the same day — resentment doesn't pile up for weeks.
- An argument ends with an option both agree on, not with a win for whoever is louder.
- If one of you describes your conversations as 'we talk everything through' and the other as 'we go quiet', that gap is an important finding in itself.
How LoveScore measures it
A hybrid dimension: roughly four fifths of the couple score comes from the overall level of skill (with extra weight on the weaker result), and the rest from how closely the partners' assessments match. That keeps the scale a measure of the ability to talk while not ignoring a situation where two people describe the same conversations in opposite ways. In the Love Score formula, Communication is one of the two weightiest dimensions alongside Trust.
The wording of the test questions isn't published here: questions read in advance skew the answers — and with them, the couple's report.
