Empathy
level: higher is better
Empathy is the ability to notice and accurately understand your partner's feelings: catching a shift in mood before it's put into words and seeing a situation through their eyes clearly enough that they never have to explain themselves twice. A 'level' dimension: the more developed the skill in both partners, the higher the score.
LoveScore measures empathy not through intention ('I try to understand' — almost everyone would agree with that) but through verifiable signs: noticing a change in mood before it's mentioned; naming precisely what your partner feels in a hard moment; holding on to their point of view even in the middle of an argument.
It's an individual ability, which is why the scale type is 'level': equally low empathy in both partners isn't a match of characters but a skill deficit in two people at once — and that configuration doesn't earn a high score.
How it shows up in a couple
- A partner comes home a little quieter than usual — the other notices before the routine 'I'm fine' is even spoken.
- Even at the height of an argument, the other side's view doesn't turn into a caricature — the partner feels genuinely understood.
- One understands why a situation hurt the other, even when it seems like nothing to them.
- Support arrives in the form the receiver needs: advice for one person, simply being heard for another.
How LoveScore measures it
A 'level' dimension: higher is better. Each partner's score is computed from their own answers about themselves, then the two scores are combined into a couple score — with extra weight on the lower one. That way the formula doesn't let the 'stronger' partner mask a skill deficit in the couple as a whole.
